It's already February which is a very busy month since we have so many birthdays to celebrate and one tiny holiday. In my opinion, this is the silly holiday. Valentine's is about love which should be shown everyday not just one day and that's why I think this is the silly holiday. However, I do think it's a really cute holiday for the little kids. Beck's teacher has asked us to bring a shoe box to school so the kids will have time to decorate them. I can't wait to go to his Valentine's day party!
Today, we decided to see some tigers then take a look at our house. We drove to Tiger Creek Wildlife Refuge which is located near the Tyler State Park off Hwy 14. It cost $10/adult and $6 ages 4 and up for the tour. The tour had already started so one of the girls working there took us to join the group but we stopped to look at the very first tiger and he was pacing the fence which is very close to the sidewalk we were on. She warned us that this one likes to spray and just after she told us that, the tiger put his booty to the fence and tried to spray us!!! Luckily, Brent grabbed Beck and pulled him back or he would have got doused with tiger urine! I was so shocked! What a way to start our tiger tour!
Our tour guide told us about each animal they have such as one of them is retired from the Barnum and Bailey circus. We learned that it takes $10k/month to stay in operation. The tigers eat the hamburger meat that humans don't eat (non-processed).
Tin Cup is a Puma that likes to play. Can you imagine seeing this in the woods? Yikes!
This is the only lion they have and he's over 400lbs and she said that he's over weight but he sure doesn't look over weight to me.
Brent and I got a lot more out of this tour than the kids did but I know they learned a few things today such as watch out for tiger urine and vinegar. That story is next.
A lady asked if a tiger had ever escaped and our tour guide laughed and said, "no". Then, the same lady asked if she would tell us the truth and our tour guide again laughed and said, "no". A-ha, I gather that something has happened in the past. By the way, Kinsey was crawling on the bridge like a tiger.
Here's the story about vinegar...we noticed spray bottles at almost every cage and Brent asked what they were for and our tour guide said they spray the cats when they are too feisty and need to calm down. As we were walking back to the front of the park, Kinsey grabbed a bottle and her hand squeezed the trigger and the vinegar sprayed Beck's face! I immediately heard a high-pitched scream as if he were getting attacked by a tiger! Brent and I both panicked and Brent covered his mouth. Luckily, there was a water faucet nearby and Brent washed the vinegar off of his face and flushed his eyes. I bet Beck will always remember this place!
As we were leaving, Beck broke down and cried so hard because he wanted to go in the gift shop and get a stuffed tiger. I felt so sorry for him after all that he had been through while we were here plus, the $20 we spent for two gifts for the kids seemed like we were making a very small contributions towards the large amount of money it takes to keep the tigers, pumas, leopard, lion, and bob cats fed.
It was time to eat lunch so we headed towards a Mexican restaurant that serves ice cream and that's what the kids ate before we ordered our food. I wonder if they will eat their meal now?
Surprisingly, they did a pretty good job of eating then Kinsey joined Beck and Daddy and it was a full on wrestle match! I remember Wendy and I fighting all of the time so I guess I better get use to it.
Then, we drove to our house being built in Bullard. I love the temporary sidewalk to keep the nasty red clay out of our house! The first floor is complete and the second floor should be done next week. It's so cool to see it in person instead of looking at it on paper! Beck and Kinsey were so cute running around picking out rooms and Kinsey kept telling us that her room will be pink.
The new city park is only one mile from our house so we let the kids play since they've been good all day and what a long day it has been. We left the house at 9:30 and returned after 5pm! I'm exhausted!
