Our road trip to Orange Beach, AL isn't as brutal going there because we split up the drive. Today, we are leaving G-town before lunch and headed for Baton Rouge. We stopped at IHOP for dinner and the kids are so excited to get out of the truck! Kinsey is attacking Beck and he is loving it! Crazy kids!!!
We finally make it to the hotel and Daddy is pooped from driving all day!
We always take a different route each time we go to the beach and our goal for today was to drive to New Orleans and go to the aquarium. However, we checked the price for admission and thought about how much time it would take plus, it's out of the way so we opted to hit the road and head towards the beach. I love this new route we are taking...we went to Dauphin Island to catch a ferry and along the way we saw a lot of boats in yards and notice the narrow townhouses in the picture below. Very interesting.
There was a line of cars waiting for the ferry and we saw the ferry leave just as we arrived which means the next one will be here in 45 minutes. Since we had free time, we walked to the beach area and the kids thought we were actually at the beach. They jumped in the water and got soaking wet! We had to change their clothes before we could get inside the truck.
In hindsight, I should have let them play "at the beach" because we missed the ferry by one car!!! Of course, we went through the list of things that slowed us down such as eating inside McD's instead of eating on the road and taking too much time in the restroom. Oh well, what's another 45 minutes.
It actually went by pretty fast and even though we caught the third boat, we still made excellent timing getting to Orange Beach! Plus, the kids loved riding the ferry!
(Look Mama, no hands!)
Kiki and Pops had just unloaded their vehicle when we arrived so we were able to use their cart to unload our stuff. This condo is so unbelievably nice!!!
While we waited for Brian, Katherine, and AOL, Brent and I went downstairs to check out the pool. There are two weddings at this condo tonight and one wedding reception was on the 7th floor. One of the guests, dropped a bottle from the 7th floor and it broke in the pool which means the pool will be closed for about an hour. We got this information from the guy vacuuming the pool. What a mess!
Everybody usually goes out the first night since there is no food in the condo yet (going grocery shopping tonight) and we didn't want to wait to eat so we ordered pizza. The first pizza place we called had over an hour wait but the second pizza place said we could pick up the pizza in 20 minutes. And, both pizza places are in the same shopping center. I was puzzled as to why one was more popular than the other.
This made me smile! I want to go back....
