At the Beach on Wednesday (part one)

06.26.13

We started our day at the Gulf Shores Zoo while Pops and Brent hit some balls at the golf course.  It was another hot/humid day!  Our first stop is at the lemur exhibit and these critters went crazy every once in a while.  I could hear them fighting as we walked through this little zoo.
Wednesday at the Beach

The best part about this zoo is that they have three different areas that allows you to sit with the animals (this one cost $5 per person).  Very hands-on which is great for the kids (and adults)!  All of the kids held a baby turtle and it only got dropped once (by Lola).

Then, a giant boa was brought out for all to hold.  The young kids are so brave!

And, Kiki is very brave!!

Wednesday at the Beach5
As well as Aunt Katherine!!!

Wednesday at the Beach6
Beck didn't care about the snake...he was dying to hold the alligator!
Wednesday at the Beach7
The first one to hold it is Ava and Kinsey is so upset because she wanted to hold it first!

Wednesday at the Beach9
Look at the happy girl...she was the second one to hold the alligator.

Wednesday at the Beach10
My brave boy, Beck, chickened out and let Kiki hold the alligator.

Wednesday at the Beach11
Ok, he is brave now and decided to hold the one thing that he loves the most at any zoo!

Wednesday at the Beach12
Ava wanted to hold the alligator one more time before we left this area.

Wednesday at the Beach13
I almost missed this turtle because he had buried himself in a deep hole which I've never seen before.

Wednesday at the Beach15
This very unique looking bird (crown crane) was on top of an animal picking off the bugs.  Now that was a really cool thing to watch!

Wednesday at the Beach14
Feeding the goats is always fun to do but hold on to your cup tightly or one might take it away which is what happened to poor Lola.

Wednesday at the Beach16
Look at this beautiful peacock!  Later in the day, we saw him walking around so Beck tried to catch him.

Wednesday at the Beach17
These kids are so brave to stand on the fence to see a really big alligator below.

Wednesday at the Beach20
The next hands-on area was with the kangaroos (cost for this one is $5 per person).  Kinsey, Beck and Lola held a baby kangaroo.  The one that we didn't do was with the lemurs because it was $10 per person.

We ended our day at the zoo by watching this cute presentation of the different animals.  I have not been brave all day but I was eager to hold this very large and colorful caterpillar?  Not really sure what it was as I got a phone call and had to jet off to move Brent's truck.  That's a long story and not one we want to remember.  But, I returned in time to see the show and they let the audience touch almost every animal they brought out except for the baby cheetah.

At the Beach on Tuesday (part two)

At the end of the pier was this very simple but very entertaining game that the kids absolutely loved playing!  The goal of the game is to swing the large ring tied to a string onto a hook.

Then, we finally left the hot pier and Ava is riding with us; Kinsey is riding with Uncle Brian, Aunt Katherine, Kiki, Lola and Otto.

We ventured to the souvenir shop to get t-shirts for the kids and outside the shop was a large pirate ship.  Of course, we had to pose as pirates!

Ava and Lola both got threaded braids put in their hair.  Kinsey is wearing the braid that I brought from home.

Next stop...Lambert's!  Because we ate such a late lunch, the wait to get a table wasn't long.

All of the kids loved catching the rolls (especially Beck) and I can't tell you how many rolls Beck ate!

Beach on Tuesday27
Brent is obsessed with the rolls too!

We hope to see Lambert's again next year!

Brent and I took the kids to almost every pool at the condo...we started at the kiddie pool but the kids thought that was too boring because it wasn't deep enough for them to swim.  Then, we visited the lazy river and ended up at the indoor pool which is what the kids love the best.

Can you tell they are having fun?

I love this picture because there's so much going on...Kinsey is giving Ava a kiss, Lola is on Uncle B's back and Brent is attacking Beck.

Thanks for a fun-filled day family!!!

Good Morning!!!
Beach on Tuesday1

We decided to visit the popular public pier this morning but it was scorching hot by the time we got there.  It's a good thing we brought lots of drinks for kids and adults!

The really cool thing about going to the pier is seeing all of the fish!  A great learning experience for the kids!

The couple in the picture below worked really hard bringing in a king mackerel then they immediately caught another big fish called Jack (we assume that this is short for the real name of the fish).  Anyway, it was fun watching them bring in these two big fish and I spoke to this lady a few times and she said that the fish are more active when it's windy.  Too bad the breeze was hot wind!

Our time on the pier has been fun!

Beck was too hot and too tired to walk back so I ended up carrying him, my fancy camera and the bag filled with ice because we had already gone through all of the drinks.  No wonder I looked like I had just got out of the shower...I was soaking wet!

Beach on Tuesday18
Otto is one lucky kid!  He had shade and a ride!  I love going to this pier but it's best to go early in the morning or in the evening.
